Kenyans Abroad round up

A goal by Chrispinus Onyango Odhiambo proved to be futile as Ann Arbor failed to garner promotion following defeat on penalties to Duluth while Eric Johanna and David Cheche Ochieng’s Brommapojkarna suffered a 5-1 rinsing at the hands of Allmänna Idrottsklubben (AIK). In Zambia, Power Dynamos halted Zesco United’s seven-game winning streak with 0-0 draw.

Swedish top flight club Brommapojkarna home to Kenyan duo of David Ochieng and Eric Johanna suffered their heaviest defeat of the season after table toppers AIK thumped them 5-1 in a match played on Sunday 22nd July.

Alexander Nillson opened the scoring for Bromma in the 18th minute but Nicolas Stefanelli restored parity for AIK with six minutes left to the break.

The second half saw a flurry of goals for AIK as Stefanelli completed the comeback a minute after the resumption while Henok Goitom put the game past Bromma in the 54 minute.

Stefanelli who has a constant thorn in the flesh for the Bromma defense bagged his hat trick two minutes later. Tarik Elyounoussi drilled the final nail in the coffin as he scored the fifth in the 87th minute.

The defeat leaves Bromma in a precarious situation as they sit second from bottom with 10 points after 14 games. Bromma next face Goteborg on Saturday 28th July as they seek to taste victory for the first time in five matches.

Elvis Rupia’s new home, Power Dynamos held reigning Zambian Super League champions Zesco United to a barren draw at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

Kenyan duo of David Calabar Owino and Jesse Were were handed starting berths while Anthony Akumu sat out of the match with an injury he picked in the game against Nkana. Chances were far and wide in the game but the best chance of the game fell to Power Dynamos’ midfielder Alex Ng’onga whose free kick struck the wood work in the 42nd minute.

With the draw Zesco still maintain their five point lead at the summit of the table after their closest challenger Green Buffaloes also picked up a draw against Green Eagles on Saturday. Zesco next face Premeiro de Agosto in the CAF Champions League on Friday 27th July in Angola.

Elsewhere in the United States of America, not even a goal by former KCB midfielder Chrispinus Onyango Odhiambo could propel them to promotion as they lost 4-3 on penalties to Duluth after regular time ended in a 3-3 draw. Odhiambo equalized for Arbor in the 23rd minute after going down 10 minutes earlier with a goal made in Kenya after Jospeh Okumu whipped in a prefect cross that was headed in by Odhiambo.

Duluth retook the lead with a minute later after conceding the equalizer and made it three in the 40th minute. The score board kept on ticking as Crawley pulled one back for Arbor.

With second left to the whistle Az Liadi nodded in the equalizer in the deep into stoppage time. After a scoreless extra time the game proceeded to penalties where they lost 4-3 as Duluth earn promotion to the North American Soccer League while Arbor remain in the National Premier Soccer League.

Nzoia Sugar top scorer Elvis Rupia  has joined Zambian side Power Dynamos.

Rupia, who is also the current league’s top scorer with 15 goals reportedly let for Zambia on July 21st to seal his dream move. His club had earlier posted on their Facebook page that rupia had indeed joined Dynamos.

“Our top scorer Elvis Rupia has joined the Zambian side Power DynamosFC. Rupia who still leads the Kenyan Premier League top scorers chart with 15 goals traveled to Zambia over the weekend. We take this opportunity to thank and wish him all the best,” Nzoiasaid on their statement.

His former coach Bernard Mwalala also took his time to wish his former striker well in his new club. Mwalala left Nzoia to take charge of another league club, Bandari.

“I wish him well. He has worked hard for this and if you look at how he worked hard to come back from injury last season, I can say his progress has been great so I hope he settles well there. I had talked to him and gave him the option of completing this season in Kenya and continue to learn more because he was on the verge of winning the golden boot and still has a few mistakes that he should have worked on. However, I believe he will still grow as a player there and like I said, I wish him the best,” he said.

He joins Kenyan Internationals Jesse Were, Musa Mohammed, Anthony Akumu, David Owino, John Makwata, Ian Otieno, Andrew Tololwa and Clifton Miheso who are currently in the league.
