Tottenham Hotspur stars set to sign new contracts

Tottenham Hotspur are set to turn their attention to tying Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen down to new contracts after both Heung-min Son and Erik Lamela committed their futures to the club on Friday, according to sources. Both players are considered vital by Mauricio Pochettino and the club are hopeful that the former Ajax duo will sign new contracts this summer.

Christian Eriksen’s current contract is due to expire in 2020 and Spurs are keen to extend his deal and offer him a pay rise in a bid to fend off potential interest from other clubs. The 26-year-old enjoyed another hugely successful season with the North London club last term as he managed 14 goals and 13 assists in all competitions. The club are hopeful that the Dane will accept their new terms with Eriksen proving to be one of the club’s most prized assets.

Heung-min Son and Erik Lamela have officially signed new contracts with Tottenham Hotspur until 2023 and 2022 respectively.

Son’s new contract
Following an impressive 2017/2018 season, in which Son scored 20 goals in all competitions, the South Korean forward has been rewarded with a new deal.

Since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen back in 2015, Son has been a huge success both on and off the pitch for Tottenham.

Whilst becoming one of the most likeable figures at Hotspur Way, the South Korean forward has shown a ruthless streak on the pitch netting 47 goals in 140 appearances for the Spurs.Last season, Son demonstrated his sheer importance for Mauricio Pochettino’s side last season appearing to 53 of the club’s 55 matches in all competitions.

Lamela’s new contract
Lamela’s spell in North London has been plagued by injury, however, he remains in Pochettino’s plans for next season.Last season, the 26-year-old missed a large part of the season due to a serious hip injury, ending the season strongly in impressive form. His new contract will run until 2022 and Spurs will be hoping that he can finally kick-start his career during the 2018/2019 season.

After an injury nightmare in recent seasons, the Argentine star is hoping 2018-19 will be a fresh start for him at Spurs.Erik Lamela is hoping his new Tottenham contract brings a change in fortune after his troubles with injury. The Argentina international missed most of the 2016-17 Premier League season with a hip injury, but battled back to feature 25 times last term. Lamela penned a contract extension Friday and he wants to have a big impact for Spurs as they look to challenge for major honours once again.

“It’s difficult to be injured, especially for a long time, but I never gave up. Everything is in the past now,” he told the club’s official website.”To be strong mentally helped me a lot and now I’m ready to play and to enjoy. I’m training hard every day to be ready for the first game. Hopefully I stay like this, injury-free, for the whole season. I’m very confident this season will be good for me and for the team as well. I want to be scoring goals, playing well, fighting for the team, everything I can do I will do. I’m sure the team will be good next season.”

Although Spurs are yet to make any signings this summer, they have successfully tied down several key players to new deals in a boost to Mauricio Pochettino, who has also signed a new contract.Forward Son Heung-min signed a fresh five-year deal earlier on Friday, and talisman Harry Kane also penned a six-year contract prior to flying off for the World Cup, where he won the Golden Boot.

Tottenham have the same problem with Toby Alderweireld that Arsenal faced with Alexis Sanchez.Alderweireld has been linked with a move away from Tottenham to Manchester United this summer. The Belgium centre-back is out of contract at the end of the upcoming season but Spurs do have the option to trigger a one-year extension in his deal.

However, if they do that then Alderweireld has a clause meaning he will be available to buy for only £25million next summer.
