The last 4 weeks of the #WorldCup have been amazing!…While watching the games, people behaviors, medias, discussion with multiple friends & colleagues, it IS extremely interesting that application of concepts in such competition and business are so similar.
Many surprises in this world cup for sure, few key factors in my view!
1. Team matters more than individual performance
The French team has some of the greatest players in the world but the coach have made a very strong emphasis on focusing on the group performance rather than a single individual, even if obviously the performance of Mbappe was clearly highlighted, you could see that the team had more than one superstar! Focus on the team dynamic & performance!
2. Diversity of team is a great strength
France is a very diverse country and the French soccer team is a clear representation of the roots of the country!! This complementary becomes a huge strength to the team performance!
3. Age doesn’t matter
The team was the youngest of the competition, while experience is critical in this kind of competition as well in the business world, we have seen in recent years that ages of highly impactful people have reduced significantly in multiple industries and if you can do the job while you are very young! Well “Just do it”!
4. Respect the competitors & stay humble
This year competition have shown multiple surprises in the games, Italy Out, Korea VS Germany, Japan VS Belgium, Croatia amazing performance, Russia VS Spain, Belgium & England great teams!! In some cases, we have seen smaller countries surprises us and demonstrate to the well-established team that there are no small countries anymore! This is really a great example on how big corporations should look at Startups and never get too comfortable!! Don’t underestimate anyone!
6. A bit of luck always help
You can praise performance but through the games and challenges, a bit of luck always help and we could see that in the game versus Croatia & Belgium!
7. Politics matter:
While Giroud (Striker) leaves the world cup as a world champion, he went the entire tournament without a shot on target! While we have one of the best strikers who was not selected because of politics…
8. Nobody is perfect, keep working & learning!
Some of the behavior on the field VS Belgium can impact perception and offer opportunities for critics. Avoiding these behaviors help to build a stronger image.
9. Get leadership support
One of the great way to get buy in and support is to get the people around you excited & passionate about you are trying to achieve. Leadership support is critical
10. Passion & Be Hungry!
The croates team have shown an increidible strength and determination through the competition and even if they lost the final, they won the public and have positioned their country in the world stage!!
