Manchester United stars ready to join team-mates on club’s pre-season tour

Manchester United star David De Gea and Nemanja Matic are set to join the club’s pre-season tour of the United States next week. Jose Mourinho has taken a young squad for United’s five-game tour of America with the inclusion of seven teenagers in the travelling party. The United boss confirmed last week that he will be without a number of first-team stars for the start of the Premier League season as he plans to give three weeks’ holiday to those involved in the latter stages of the World Cup. That rules out the likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard participating in the tour but Matic and De Gea are set to provide some much-needed experience when they join next week.

Spain were expected to go deeper into the knockout stages in Russia but they were knocked out by the hosts at the last-16 stage. Serbia failed to progress from their group, something Mourinho admitted he hoped would happen before the tournament kicked off. It means De Gea and Matic will have had a three-week break before linking up with their team-mates next week and they could feature in two of United’s five pre-season tour games.

De Gea has already confirmed that he’s Stateside after posting a photo on his Instagram showing he was in Florida. Jesse Lingard is also holidaying across the Atlantic but will not join up with the squad.

United are without Alexis Sanchez in the States as a VISA problem held up his entry into the country. The club are working alongside the Chilean’s lawyer to get him a waiver so that he can participate in part of the trip.
