Liverpool urged to complete Ivan Perisic deal due to Man Utd problem

Perisic’s stock has never been higher with an impressive series of performances for Croatia at the World Cup heightening interest in him. The latest reports in Italy indicate Manchester United must pay the big bucks if they are to lure the 29-year-old away from Inter Milan. But Thompson wants Liverpool to gatecrash the deal because he believes a move to play under Jose Mourinho would ‘stifle him with defensive responsibility’.

Thompson tweeted: “That Perisic would look fantastic in a Liverpool shirt, going to Man Utd under Mourinho would ruin him he’d stifle him with defensive responsibility!”

Perisic does not have a release clause written into his current contract, which runs until 2022. Inter are therefore in a strong position to hold out for a hefty fee for the Split-born ace.
