Croatia to receive a heroes’ welcome in Zagreb

Thousands of Croatia’s supporters are set to welcome their national team in the Croatian capital Zagreb, where the FIFA World Cup runners-up arrive on Monday, the Croatian broadcaster Radiotelevision (HRT) reported on Monday.
Croatia delivered their best performance at a FIFA World Cup so far, going all the way to the final where they lost 4-2 to France at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday.

“Croatia celebrated the country’s success at the 2018 FIFA World Cup late into the night. But it’s not the end since thousands of people are expected at the team’s welcoming ceremony. The plane is to land at Zagreb Airport at about 14:00 local time [12:00 GMT],” the HRT reported.

According to the organizers, up to 100,000 people may gather in the city’s central square Ban Jelacic to welcome the national team. Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic has called on the citizens to cheer the team on their route from the airport to the the square. Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, who attended the final match in Moscow, is expected to present the players with awards at her residence later.
