Why Toby to Man United is off

Man Utd and Tottenham held talks over a deal for Toby Alderweireld – but the deal broke down as the two clubs were £20million apart in their valuations.

United are keen on strengthening their defence with Belgium centre-back Alderweireld potentially available.

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge understands discussions were had between the Premier League giants but the price has proven a stumbling block.

“Alex Ferguson said in his book that Daniel Levy was more painful than his hip replacement and that’s not changed,” Bridge told the Transfer Talk podcast.

“They did want Toby, whether they still want him as much remains to be seen. From what I know at the time and still now is that he valuation between the two clubs were so far apart – nearly up to £20million.”
