Croatia midfielder Luka Modric says he is interested in winning the World Cup but not the Ballon d’Or.
Due to his performance in the ongoing World Cup, Modris has been tipped to win the Ballon d’Or. He is proud to be considered a leading candidate but his focus is with the team, not individual awards. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been the obvious candidates since their teams left the competition early, the focus has been switched to Modric who has helped Croatia reach the first World Cup final.
“I’ve repeated several times that I’m focused on the team’s success. When you’re mentioned in that context, it’s very nice, it’s pleasing, but I don’t worry myself about that. I want my team to win and hopefully, we win [on Sunday]. Other things are outside my control,” he said.
“What I want is a success for the national team. Individual awards are not a priority for me,” he added.
