Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Kieran Trippier is set to be awarded the freedom of his hometown Bury. The council’s leader Rishi Shori proposed the idea during a meeting on Wednesday night, with the award the highest accolade that can be given to civilians from the council. The award comes after the 27-year-old’s heroic performances for the Three Lions at this summer’s World Cup, as he played a crucial role in helping them reach the semi-finals. Another list of names the right-back looks set to join is director Danny Boyle and band Elbow who have been awarded the freedom of Bury – an award which Trippier is now up for. Trippier’s free-kick against Croatia has cemented his name in the Three Lions’ history book with the goal rounding off his excellent tournament. Gareth Southgate’s side have restored England’s pride in the national team as they far exceeded expectations and face one final test today against Belgium with a bronze medal on the line.
