Want-away Man United stars report for pre-season training

Anthony Martial and Daley Blind were among the Manchester United players to return for first-team training on Wednesday amid continued questions over their futures. Martial has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford having failed to nail down a regular starting place in two seasons under Jose Mourinho, with Barcelona the latest club said to hold an interest in the former Monaco star.

The 22-year-old has found football increasingly hard to come by since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez, another player who was among the roll call on Wednesday as United’s players not involved in World Cup duty began their preparations for the 2018-19 season.

Meanwhile, Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that he wants to sign Blind, who made just four Premier League starts for United last term, admitting: “Blind is a player with a lot of experience, in the Premier League and in the Dutch national team,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports. “We are doing everything, but it also depends on other parties.” One of Mourinho’s summer additions, and a potential long-term replacement for Blind, was at Carrington too, with Diogo Dalot reporting for training for the first time following his £19 million move from Porto in June.
