Manchester United hoping to be counted by new Spain boss

Juan Mata is hopeful the new Spain boss Luis Enrique will give him a call in the national team ahead of a strong season with Manchester United.

The former Barcelona coach was appointed the head coach for Spain as a full-time replacement for Julen Lopetegui who was shown the door a day to World Cup after his decision to join Real Madrid. Mata has only featured for Spain once under Lopetegui, in a friendly match which saw his side draw with England 2-2 in November 2016.

“I will do everything in my power to return to the national team. I hope the new coach will count on me because I’m going to do everything possible to go back. I would love to help Spain become champions again.”

Mata, who joined United from Chelsea in January 2014, made 36 starts in all competitions for the Red Devils last season, including 23 in the Premier League. ,” The 30-year-old has scored 10 goals in 41 appearances for Spain.
