Liverpool & Xherdan Shaqiri: Stoke transfer talks confirmed

Big transfer news have been broken for Liverpool fans on Wednesday. It’s been confirmed that the Reds have opened transfer talks with Stoke City to sign Swiss star Xherdan Shaqiri this summer. As reported in the broadsheet:

“Jurgen Klopp is making his move to sign Shaqiri and wants to trigger his release clause, which is understood to be over £13 million, this month.”

“Shaqiri does have a release clause but the exact details are unknown at this stage, though the fee is believed to be higher than the widely reported £12m.”

Should Shaqiri join Liverpool, he’d help plug the gap in Jurgen Klopp’s squad left by Philippe Coutinho’s exit to Barcelona in January.

Shaqiri started his career in Switzerland with FC Basel where he played 130 games scoring 23 and assisting 27.

The winger then moved to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in 2012 for a fee of around £10 million. During his time in Germany Shaqiri played 81 games scoring 17 and assisting 19. He also won the Champions League once, Bundesliga three times and German Cup twice. Shaqiri then moved to Inter Milan permanently in 2015 for a fee of around £13 million. However, he would only play 20 games for Inter before moving to Stoke City in August of 2015 for £15.3 million. Since being at Stoke, Shaqiri has scored 15 and assisted 15 in 92 appearances.
