Ian Wright delivers verdict on Lucas Torreira and other deals

Arsenal announced defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira as their fourth signing yesterday afternoon. Torreira follows Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Bernd Leno and Stephan Lichtsteiner to the Emirates. And Gunners hero Wright has praised Arsenal’s transfer business, claiming Emery is building a team with a mix of experience and exiting prospects.

He wrote on Twitter: “Great momentum in this window. Sokratis and Lichtsteiner’s age and experience balanced off with one (maybe two) exciting young players. Great season & WC for Torreira and he could slot straight in but will need some time to settle.”

Arsenal are keen to spend big this summer to secure a top-four spot this season. The Gunners finished sixth in Arsene Wenger’s final season last time out, missing out on Champions League football. Arsenal kick off their pre-season on Saturday afternoon, with Emery’s taking charge for the first time against Boreham Wood.

The Gunners are preparing for their tough Premier League opener against champions Manchester City on Sunday, August 12 at the Emirates.
