Guendouzi: What Arsenal fans should expect from me

Matteo Guendouzi is the latest French midfielder to join the club – but what can we expect from the 19-year-old? Mattéo Guendouzi Olié is a French professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for English club Arsenal and French national team France U20’s
The former PSG academy product has made a big impression in Ligue 2 for Lorient, but how would he describe his playing style?

“I’m a player who likes to get on the ball and use it,” Guendouzi told Arsenal Player. “I like keeping possession and to play too. Playing the ball, linking up with my team-mates, battling for the team. I want to win every game – that’s really important to me. I’d say my main quality is keeping the ball and my passing.”

On 11 July 2018, it was announced that Guendouzi had joined Premier League team Arsenal for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around the £8m mark. Head-coach Unai Emery said “We are delighted Matteo is joining us. He is a talented young player and a lot of clubs were interested in him. He has big potential and gained good first-team experience last season with Lorient. He wants to learn and improve and will be an important part of our first-team squad”. Upon joining the club, Guendouzi was handed the number 29 shirt, previously held by Granit Xhaka, who took the number 34 shirt, following the departure of Francis Coquelin, the previous season
