Erratic Karius defended again

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has once again defended goalkeeper Loris Karius after the shot-stopper made another mistake in his side’s 3-2 win over Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night.

Karius came in in the second half when Liverpool had taken control of the game, leading 3-0 but he ended up conceding 2 goals as the Reds held on to claim a second consecutive win. This was the second appearance for Karius since his costly error against Real Madrid during the Champions League final. Despite the mistake, Klopp defender the Germany keeper after he spilled a free-kick where the League Two side scored from the loose ball.

“It [criticism] will probably happen for a while until he has a few fantastic games, that is how the situation is. We cannot change that. Our job is to perform and you do what you do and that is part of the deal,” he said.

“Loris concedes that goal, but we cannot start a story always after each mistake. Mistakes will happen; I don’t like it, he doesn’t like it, but it will happen, so let’s carry on and make the best of all these situations by learning from them,” he added.

Klopp was irritated by Liverpool’s second-half display and by the continued focus on his German keeper, although that was unavoidable after an untimely error even in a pre-season friendly against League Two opposition.
