The Super Eagles have failed to qualify for back-to-back editions of the Africa Cup Nations, AFCON and while they are keen to make it to the 2019 edition, a member of the national team, Ogenyi Onazi has expressed fear and a big wish that the ongoing NFF crisis should not affect preparations. Onazi was part of the Super Eagles team to the Russia 2018 but was denied any playing time. The combative-midfielder who admitted that all were disappointed with how things panned out in Russia added that the AFCON qualifiers is next on their agenda.

“For now everybody is shattered. It was a disappointing World Cup for me. I think we just need to bring ourselves back together and hope the issues with the Federations don’t affect our preparations.” Onazi said.

He added: “The most important thing is to put the country first. Other personal issues should not derail our ambition to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. We missed the last two editions and we must raise ourselves to beat the odds and qualify for the tournament.”

The 2019 AFCON is billed to take place in Cameroon.
