Spain sacks coach Fernando Hierro

Fernando Hierro, who stood as Spain’s coach at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, has been sacked. Hierro took over when Julen Lopetegui was sacked on the eve of the World Cup.

Spanish football federation announced on Sunday that the coach will not continue in the role. Under Hierro, who is also a former Real Madrid and Spain defender, Spain crashed out of the World Cup in Russia in the round of 16.

They lost on penalties to host nation, Russia, after playing out a 3-3 draw with Portugal; winning 1-0 against Iran and drawing 2-2 with Morocco.
