Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox debut watched by 40,000 fans despite being pre-season friendly

Let’s Go is the slogan of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers revolution. There was no stopping his Ibrox side as they blitzed Bury on their new gaffer’s home bow. Scott Arfield grabbed two and fellow summer signings Jamie Murphy and Nikola Katic also netted.

Alfredo Morelos and kid Zak Rudden then scored late on as the League Two side crumbled. Gerrard won’t be getting too carried away. He knows Rangers will face much tougher tests in the weeks and months to come.

But this was a hugely positive start to his reign in front of an incredible Ibrox crowd of over 41,000. Gerrard’s new-look team were 3-0 up at half-time. By the end, it could have been double figures. To say Gers fans have bought into the Liverpool legend’s appointment would be a massive understatement. Bury was hardly the most glamorous friendly for punters when Brazil v Belgium was on the telly. Yet Ibrox was almost packed to the rafters to welcome the new gaffer for his first game in Govan.
