Nigeria World Cup Striker turns down N1.1b

Crotone of Italy revelation, Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo (Simy) has turned down what could have been a megabucks move to the oil rich Middle east, as he opted to keep developing his game in central Europe. Being part of Nigeria’s final squad to Russia 2018 has shot his stock up to an all time high, as he played two games for the Super Eagles at the World Cup, coming off the bench in the closing minutes of their losses to Croatia and Argentina.

It is with that in mind that ‘Simy’ is opting to stick it out in Europe, even after his future was cast in doubt y the relegation of his club from Serie A at the end of last season. The 27-year-old has entered the final twelve months of his contract with Crotone, whom he joined in 2016 from Portuguese side Gil Vicente.

However, rather than take a hasty escape route to Asia, the towering striker, who netted seven goals in Serie A last term, has turned down a top-flight club in United Arab Emirates. The club’s representative was shocked that Simy rejected the $3m per season offer from the club, but sources close to the emerging star say his chances of growing are better in Europe.
