West Ham United offered the chance to sign Dimitri Payet

West Ham United have been offered the chance to re-sign forward Dimitri Payet from Olympique de Marseille, according to the Guardian’s journalist Jacob Steinberg. The player’s representatives have made contact with the East London club and manager Manuel Pellegrini is now considering the offer.

Steinberg claims that Payet is happy in France and given the manner of his departure from West Ham back in 2016, this transfer would come as a surprise. Payet is understood to be keen on returning to the London Stadium this summer and has offered his services back to West Ham.

The club are now considering whether the move would be possible given the potential backlash from supporters and the £25m fee Marseille are likely to demand. New manager Pellegrini is now mulling over the possibility of signing Payet and received a postive response from the club’s senior players when he asked for advice over the player.

The Hammers are looking to strengthen their attack, especially with Manuel Lanzini set to be out for six months after sustaining a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. The club are today excepted to announce the signing of Jack Wilshere from Arsenal on a free transfer.
