John Barnes reveals Mohamed Salah contract truth

The Egyptian had been heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid or Barcelona this summer following a stunning debut campaign at Anfield.

Salah scored 44 goals and helped Jurgen Klopp’s side to the Champions League final, sparking speculation he could leave just a year after joining.

But the 25-year-old pledged his future to the club this week, penning a brand new five-year deal with no release clause, meaning it will take a hefty bid to convince Liverpool to sell.

The Premier League side have been accustomed to losing their best players in recent years, with Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho both securing big-money moves to the Nou Camp.

Salah’s new deal led to suggestions that Liverpool were sending a message that they’re no longer a selling club and are capable of hanging on to their world class players.

And while Barnes insists it can only be a positive that Salah signed a new deal, he admits that every player has their price, no matter who they play for.

“Salah signing a new contract doesn’t mean that Liverpool are no longer a selling club,” the Bonus Bet Codes ambassador exclusively told Starsport.

“Every club is a selling club. If Real Madrid offered £200m for Salah then he’d go and Liverpool would then be a selling club.

“Ronaldo might be leaving Real Madrid, Lewandowski could leave Bayern Munich.

“Neymar could leave PSG as well so even the biggest clubs in the world are selling clubs.

“But what the new contract means is that Salah is committed to Liverpool and wants to stick around and see how far they can go.”
