Facebook in €226m deal with Premier League

Facebook will stream live Premier League games in South-east Asia from 2019 after agreeing a three-year €226m deal that breaks yet more ground in how and coverage of elite sports is being consumed.
The Times report that the social media powerhouse will make all 380 games in the English top flight available to watch in in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
Those rights were previously held by held by BeIN, which falls under the Al Jazeera Media Network.
Last month Amazon secured the rights to show Premier League matches for the first time in further evidence of their financial might in the bidding wars for sports events.
The giant online retailer will show 20 Premier League matches a season for three years, starting from the 2019/20 season.
The US company was the first to break up the previous dominance of Sky and BT Sport.
Amazon will exclusively livestream all 10 matches over a bank holiday period and another 10 during the first midweek fixture programme in December.
However, the action will only be available to their Amazon Prime UK subscribers, which is the online seller’s premium service available for a fee.
