England’s jubilant World Cup team raced to the edge of the pitch into the arms of their partners and children in touching scenes after Tuesday night’s game. After Eric Dier scored the winning penalty against Colombia, the players sprinted across the pitch and jumped on star goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in glorious scenes for England fans.
And the wives, partners and children of team members erupted with joy as the dramatic game ended with a victory. Jamie Vardy’s wife, Rebekah, and Dele Alli’s girlfriend, Ruby Mae, were among those who watched the tense game from the stadium. After beating Colombia and progressing through to the quarter finals the players ran to embrace their partners in the stands.
Manager Gareth Southgate ran to his wife Alison and son Flynn who had been anxiously watching from the sidelines.
