Portuguese winger ‘agrees’ Atletico Madrid switch

As per a report from Spanish outlet AS, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have clinched a deal with in-demand winger Gelson Martins. Martins, a 23-year-old Portuguese international, came up through the youth ranks at Sporting CP, before breaking into the club’s first-team setup in 2015.

After struggling for game-time during his debut campaign with the Leões, Martins established himself as a key contributor for the club during the 2016-17 season, racking up 6 goals and 9 assists in 32 league outings. And, after playing a starring role once again this past season (13 goals and 13 assists across all competitions), the blistering wide-man has since been heavily linked with a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

All of Real Madrid, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United, Everton, Lazio and Juventus have been named as admirers of Martins’ talents, with previous reports having even claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo was pushing the board at the Bernabeu to splash out on his fellow countryman.
