Man Utd thought Ronaldo would sign before Juventus links

Real Madrid star Ronaldo has been linked with Manchester United and Juventus amid uncertainty over his Bernabeu future.

The Portugal international, whose involvement at the World Cup in Russia is over, is keen to quit the La Liga giants.

Ronaldo has won the lot during his time at Real Madrid and, with Zinedine Zidane no longer in charge, a move away looks likely.

Juventus appear to have leapfrogged Manchester United in the race to secure his signature.

And the Metro claim the Red Devils are no longer interested.

Jose Mourinho would prefer United to use their budget shrewdly as they eye a Premier League title charge next season.

He did, though, think Ronaldo would possibly return to Old Trafford 12 months ago.

At the time, Ronaldo was again dropping hints he wanted to leave Real.

The Portugal international was understood to be furious at the club for failing to back him in a tax case with Spanish authorities.

Ronaldo even supposedly said he wanted to return to England during the court case.

But, as the Metro point out, United’s hopes were again dashed.

Meanwhile, the Real superstar has been tipped to shine at Juventus by Gonzalo Higuain’s agent.

Ronaldo and Higuain struck up a great partnership together at Real, propelling them to the La Liga title in 2012.

And Nicholas Higuain has said: “We don’t know anything yet. He was team-mates with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid, but they haven’t spoken about it.

“It would be fantastic obviously, especially if he made a strike partnership with Gonzalo.

“They know each other so well, as they played about 80 games together. If Juve can do it, this will be fantastic, just spectacular. It’s hardly new for them to work together.”
