Confirmed: Real Madrid sign Spain defender

Real Madrid have agreed a deal for right-back Alvaro Odriozola from Real Sociedad for a reported fee of €40million (£35.36million). The 22-year-old, who was part of Spain’s squad at this summer’s World Cup, has signed a six-year contract at The Bernabeu. Real Madrid will complete the deal for Odriozola subject to a medical, as reported by the club’s official website.

A graduate of Real Sociedad’s academy, Odriozola broke into the first-team in January 2017 and subsequently established himself as the club’s first-choice right-back, making 57 appearances in total. Odriozola, who has four caps for Spain at senior level, will provide back-up for Dani Carvajal at Real Madrid and should be ahead of youngster Achraf Hakimi in the pecking order. Real Madrid have already finalised the signing of young goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, while they have also completed a move for exciting Brazilian attacking prospect Vinicius Junior.
