Arsenal step-up pre-season training

Unai Emery stepped up the intensity of pre-season training for his Arsenal stars as he looks to imprint his philosophy ahead of the new campaign. The Gunners have one of the toughest starts to the new Premier League campaign as they begin at home to champions Manchester City. While some of his players continue away at the World Cup, Emery cut an animated figure at the club’s London Colney base on Thursday as players worked hard to impress.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who joined the club from Manchester United in January, was locked-in as he looked sharp during a two-team drill. The Armenian will look to be a central figure who Emery builds a team around for the new campaign. New signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos took the breaks in the session to chat to his new team-mates as he was pictured with French striker Alexandre Lacazette.
