Andreas Pereira: ‘Jose Mourinho promised to give me a chance’

Andreas Pereira has indicated that he is ready to remain at Manchester United and fight for a place in the first team under Jose Mourinho.

The 22-year-old appeared to be close to a permanent switch to Valencia this summer after impressing on loan during the 2017-18 campaign.

Pereira has been restricted to just five Premier League appearances for United since emerging from the academy four years ago, having also spent the 2016-17 season on loan with Granada.

Asked by Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg what he expects to happen next in his career, the Brazil Under-23s international suggested that he intends to impress Mourinho when given a run in the side.

“Breaking through with Man Utd is and remains the big dream,” he said. “After two good seasons in Spain, I know that I can always go there. Valencia wanted to keep me, but at the moment my goals are in England.

“I want to make it at Man Utd. At Valencia I have proven that I can participate at the highest level. That’s what I hope to show in Manchester now.

“I told him that I felt ready to compete. He was happy to hear that and said I would get my chance. Now we will see how it goes in pre-season. Then we are together again, but of course I hope to convince him.”

Pereira, a part of the United fold since 2011, is under contract with the Red Devils for another couple of years.
