Marcus Rashford admits ‘frustration’ at being left on bench for Manchester United and England

Marcus Rashford revealed his frustration at the lack of starts for Manchester United last season.

The England striker started just 17 Premier League games last term and scored seven goals.

Marcus Rashford admits he has been frustrated at his lack of starts for Manchester United and the 20-year-old’s frustration has emerged at international level as well, but Rashford, who is expected to be on the bench against Colombia insists his lack of starts is not hampering his progress.

Rashford said: “Every player will tell you it’s always frustrating when you don’t start. You have to look at the positives – you get two extra days’ training.

“It’s not stopped me developing. If it had stopped me developing then it’s more of a problem.

“He (Mourinho) has 20-25 players, everyone has different attributes and suits different styles so finding the right balance is a tough job for a manager.

“He got it right most of the time last season but we need a bit extra to push for the title.”

There have been suggestions the kid who burst onto the scene under Louis Van Gaal two years ago may leave Old Trafford to be the main man elsewhere.

But Rashford, who has another two years to run on his contract has vowed to bide his time and work hard to impress his managers at club and international level.

He added: “You’ve got to be patient.

“You have to have an open mind because there are a lot of top players that all bring different qualities to the game.

“And at the level we’re playing at here, being in an England camp or whether it is at the club, you have to really understand that.”
