Jordan Pickford trolls Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois

Here’s a sentence which was never previously true until Tuesday night.

England have won a World Cup knockout match on penalties.

England beat Colombia 4-3 in a dramatic shootout in the last-16 in Russia.

Harry Kane, with his sixth goal at the competition, fired England into the lead with a second-half penalty.

But with seconds left on the clock in injury time, Barcelona’s Yerry Mina headed home an equaliser.

Yet England held their nerve, they saw out extra time, and then triumphed on penalties.

The Colombia game was a match Everton keeper Jordan Pickford will never forget.

Pickford made an incredible save in the shootout to deny Carlos Bacca.

But before that, in the final minutes of regulation time, Pickford also made an incredible one-handed stop to keep the Three Lions in it.

After the game, Pickford used the opportunity to troll Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois.

In their final group game, Belgium beat England thanks to a brilliant goal from former Man United and Sunderland winger Adnan Januzaj.

Januzaj cut inside Danny Rose before he curled a left-footed striker past Everton’s Jordan Pickford and into the far side of the England net.

After the game, Chelsea keeper Courtois mocked Everton’s Pickford for his effort in trying to stop the shot. Courtois said:

The goalkeeper is 10cm smaller than me. I would have caught it.

He was too busy throwing his legs in the air.

So what did Pickford have to say to Courtois after the Colombia game?

I have got power and agility. I don’t care if I’m not the biggest keeper because it’s about being there in the moment and making the save, and I was.
