The Brazilian was at the centre of attention for acts of simulation as his nation secured a place in the quarter-finals, but he was constantly targeted by Mexican players for some physical treatment throughout.
“Neymar must be told that ‘either you make us cry or you make us laugh. When the Mexican stepped on him I wanted to cry but seeing him run with the ball later I wanted to laugh.” Maradona commented on the game as a whole as well, admitting that he enjoyed the event. “I enjoyed it because I think I saw a very strong Brazil side that are on their way to the title,” he added. “I like Tite a lot and he has them very well trained, Mexico could not have asked for anything else.”
