England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford hits back at critics after penalty save

Jordan Pickford has hit back at his critics after producing a crucial penalty save during England’s 4-3 shootout win over Colombia at the World Cup finals.

Belgium stopper Thibaut Courtois questioned Pickford’s performance in the wake of the Red Devils’ group-stage victory over England and insinuated that his opposite number is too short to compete at the highest level.

Speaking to ITV in the wake of England’s victory over the Colombians, Pickford insisted that his height is not an issue.

“I don’t care if I’m not the biggest keeper because I’ve got power and agility and it’s about being there in the moment and making the save and I was,” he said.

“It’s all about the set position and I got a hand to it. We knew we had this game, even if it had to go to penalties, we knew we were capable of winning.”

England and Colombia were tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Harry Kane’s opener from the penalty spot having been cancelled out by a Yerry Mina header deep into stoppage time.
