Jesse Lingard eyeing Goal of the Tournament award after Panama screamer

Jesse Lingard thinks he has a chance of winning Goal of the Tournament  and the Manchester United star claims he might be on course to claim the prize!

The World Cup is only just hotting up but Russia 2018 has already served up some stunners.

France’s teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani of Uruguay scored breathtaking doubles as their teams became the first to reach the last eight.

Then there was Cristiano Ronaldo’s free-kick in Portugal’s 3-3 draw against Spain, Toni Kroos’ last-gasp winner for Germany in their comeback win over Sweden.

Lionel Messi, like Ronaldo and Kroos, may be on his way back home but the Argentinian still left his calling card with that magical opener against Nigeria.

And what about Lingard’s Old Trafford team-mate Marco Rojo, who scored a thumping volley in the same game?

Lingard, however, is adamant.

“Yeah, it’s got to be me,” he says, breaking into a big grin as he recalls his 25-yard-curler in the Three Lions’ 6-1 win over Panama.

“And I liked the French goal from Pavard on Saturday – it was very good technique.”
