Is Marcus Rashford stagnating?

Marcus Rashford is yet to make an impact for England at the World Cup
The Belgium ace has done what most footballers do best and stick up for one of his mates with an act of flattery so transparent a blind man could see through it.

He wasn’t joking when he was asked about Marcus Rashford – and described him as perhaps the ‘most complete young No.9 in world football.’

What Lukaku should have said was that Rashford is perhaps the most ‘frustrated young centre forward in world football’.

The Manchester United ace will be 21 on Halloween, by which time he hopes his current nightmare will have come to an end.

That’s because the boy might have become a man, but Rashford remains someone struggling to graduate in his specialist subject – scoring goals.

With Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo heading home from the World Cup, it feels like the end of an era for two of the greatest players we have ever seen.

The moment has come to look to the future and to those capable of taking the baton this remarkable pair are about to pass on.

Rashford should be one of those to grasp it, because he’s had the nation raving about him since bursting onto the scene with Manchester United in 2016.

Louis van Gaal might have had little choice but to give Rashford his debut, but it still remains one of the best things the madcap Dutchman ever did during his time at Old Trafford.
