Aston Villa and Birmingham City both want keeper Cooper

Aston Villa and Birmingham City are both said to be interested in signing Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Michael Cooper. PlymouthLive report that Villa and Blues are keeping tabs on the highly-rated 18-year-old who made his first-team debut last season.

They could go head to head to sign him with both clubs in the market for goalkeeping reinforcements. Villa have seen stopper Sam Johnstone return to Manchester United after he spent 18 months on loan as the club’s first-choice, while Blues have told senior options David Stockdale and Tomasz Kuszczak that they can leave this summer.

Cooper’s only appearance for Plymouth came against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park in October when he replaced the injured Kyle Letheren at half-time and kept the score at 1-1.
