‘Loss to Belgium has not affected mood in England camp’

Kieran Trippier has dismissed claims that England’s 1-0 defeat to Belgium in their final World Cup Group G game has cost them momentum in the tournament.

The Tottenham Hotspur full-back star was one of numerous players rested by Gareth Southgate for Thursday’s clash, which was settled by Adnan Januzaj’s second-half winner.

There have been claims that Southgate’s decision to rotate his players could come back to haunt the Three Lions as they are faced with a tricky last-16 meeting against Colombia.

Trippier, however, insists that “nothing has changed” and the mood in the camp in Russia has not been affected by the defeat.

“Everyone is absolutely buzzing about qualifying,” the 27-year-old told talkSPORT on Saturday.

“It’s a massive achievement because it’s not easy to qualify out of the group in a World Cup

“The mood is high, nothing has changed and we’re all excited and ready to go.”

England face Los Cafeteros at Moscow’s Otkrytiye Arena on Tuesday.
