Gary Rowett: ‘I will assess Jack Butland’s situation

Stoke City manager Gary Rowett has said that he will hold talks with goalkeeper Jack Butland this weekend over the stopper’s future at the bet365 Stadium.

Butland has been linked with a move away from the Potteries following Stoke’s relegation from the Premier League, with Liverpool allegedly tracking the England international.

Speaking to The Mirror, Rowett said that he will attempt to thrash out an agreement with Butland over his options ahead of next season.

“I said I’d leave him alone for now as he’s concentrating on a massive tournament,” the manager said. “But I think I’ll give him a call over the weekend now the group stage is out of the way.

“You want to spend five or 10 minutes trying to gauge the situation of all the players and where you see them. Because Jack is a terrific goalkeeper and obviously with England at the moment everyone will speculate that because you’ve been relegated, of course he’s going to have to go, he’s going to want to go.

“But the reality is – you’ve seen it with Joe Allen and others – people want to be at this club.”

Butland, who is yet to feature for England at the World Cup, last played for the Three Lions in a 2-0 friendly winover Costa Rica ahead of the tournament
