Diego Maradona: I’m more alive than ever

Diego Maradona has insisted that he is “more alive than ever” amid concerns over his health.

The Argentina legend was assessed by a doctor during his nation’s dramatic 2-1 win over Nigeria at the 2018 World Cupon Tuesday night.

Maradona was seen by medical staff at the interval of the World Cup match having complained of neck pain, but the 57-year-old eased concerns over his health on Wednesday.

Maradona drew attention with his wild celebrations when Marcos Rojo netted the late winner against Nigeria, but the former forward has insisted that his condition has been exaggerated.

“I want to let the whole world know that I’m more alive than ever. Unfortunately I can’t make mediocre people good,” Maradona told Telesur. “There has been talk of stretchers, ambulances on the internet which triggered a cycle of meaningless lies. I understand the envy, but don’t tell lies.”

Argentina will take on France in the last-16 stage of the competition on Saturday afternoon.
