Wayne Rooney reveals career ambition to move to MLS following DC deal

Wayne Rooney has revealed how a move to the MLS was always a career ambition for him after leaving Everton to join DC United. It was confirmed earlier today that the Englishman had left boyhood club Everton to move to the MLS.

It was suggested that the player wanted to stay at the Goodison Park club but after talks with Marco Silva, knew there would be no spot for him in the team. That lead to Rooney and his agent Paul Stretford looking at options and it soon became clear that a move to the MLS was on the cards.

Now, the former Manchester United star has revealed that it was always an ambition for him to move to America. He has also explained that he has the hunger to be a success and will give 100% for his new side.

“It is fantastic to be joining D.C. United at such an exciting time in the club’s history with the new stadium opening in just a few weeks,” Wayne Rooney said on the official DC United website. “Moving to America and MLS fulfils another career ambition for me. I have the hunger to be a success here and will give D.C. 100 percent – as I have always done for every team I have ever played for.“When I visited earlier this summer I was really impressed with everyone I met connected with the club, and of course the new Audi Field.

“Now I can’t wait to get on the pitch in a United shirt and join my new teammates to bring success to this club.”
