England World Cup odds shorten after Germany exit

England’s odds of winning the World Cup have been slashed following Germany’s exit from the tournament.

The defending champions bowed out after losing 2-0 to South Korea in their final group match, and England have since been installed as the bookmakers’ fourth-favourites to go all the way in Russia.

“England fans will always rejoice an early exit for the Germans in a major tournament, and the fact that Southgate’s men are looking like hopefuls themselves is a huge bonus,” BBC Sport quotes Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek as saying.

“England’s route to the final will now be clear of a penalty shootout loss to the old enemy.”

The odds of England winning the tournament have been aggregated at 17-2, making them more fancied than France and Argentina
