How the Super Eagles rated against Argentina

Francis Uzoho – Uzoho made a few good saves in the game but his inexperience showed. he could not organize his defense. 4

William Ekong – A very testing game for Ekong who worked his socks off in trying to contain the Argentine attack. He did well enough, but was out of position for the Argentine’s winning goal. 5

Leon Balogun – Worked tirelessly and was very dominant at the back. Tired out, expectedly. 5

Kenneth Omeruo – Another assured performance where he dominanted his territory, but seemed a bit slow at times. 5

Brian Idowu – For a wingback, he offered very little but did a great job defensively. 5

Victor Moses – Was a bit more withdrawn and helped keep Di Maria quiet for the entire game. This did not permit him do much going forward. Scored an excellent penalty to draw level. 6

Onyinye Ndidi – Ndidi was his usual workaholic self as he put in a decent shift in the middle of the park and even ventured forward occasionally. Needs to work on his long-range shooting. 6

Obi Mikel – Gave a good account of himself, but was not able to wield his influence as much as expected. Its glaring he has lost that bit of pace and perhaps strength. 5

Oghenekaro Etebo – Was all energy as usual, but not to much end result as his really poor decision-making let him down repeatedly. 5

Ahmed Musa – By far the Super Eagles’ best player on the pitch, Musa gave his all with the renewed confidence from his brace in the previous game. 7

Kelechi Iheanacho – Was very poor. He is not suited for the formation and was perhaps overwhelmed by the occasion as he failed to do the basic things right. Taken off at half time. 3

Odion Ighalo – Came on for Iheanacho at half time and put a bit more pressure on the Argentine defence. Wasted two glorious opportunities that could have killed off the game when it mattered the most. 3

Gernot Rohr failed to rally his boys to get the required result when it mattered. Still hasn’t figured out how to best utilize the players he selected, and still very tactically conservative and non-proactive. 6

Iwobi, Nwankwo – Came on too late to get a rating.
