Former Chelsea Boss Guus Hiddink has written off the chances of Argentina progressing to the last sixteen of the 2018 World Cup and had nothing but praise for the Super Eagles, saying they are not a typical African team. Reports suggested that La Albiceleste’s camp was in disarray leading up to today’s match at the Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg after they were thrashed by Croatia and held to a 1-1 draw by Iceland in their World Cup opener.
There were also rumours that the senior Argentina players would select the team and tactics for their final Group D fixture against Nigeria, which was later denied by the Argentinian Football Association president Claudio Tapia.
”I have not been impressed by the Argentinian team, that is why I’m curious to know the lineup , whether the manager has made the lineup or the players,” Hiddink said in his pre-match analysis.
”Nigeria, I like the African teams, sometimes they disappear defensively but this team is a well organized team, All the guys play in Europe, they know the tactical discipline, watch Nigeria. Guus Hiddink’s former pupil, John Obi Mikel, will play his seventh World Cup match against Argentina if he is allowed by Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakır.
