Arsene Wenger Has Identified England’s Main weakness

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has identified Kyle Walker as the weak link in England’s World Cup side.

Gareth Southgate’s men secured their place in the last 16 of the competition after thrashing Panama 6-1 on Sunday, following on from their 2-1 triumph over Tusisia.

However, England failed to keep a clean sheet in either game and at times their back three has look vulnerable.

And Wenger believes that Walker, a right-back playing as a right-sided centre-half in England’s 3-5-2, could be the problem.

“He’s not a real defender, and especially not a central defender,” he told beIN SPORT. “He can be subject to defensive mistakes, which he would not pay for when he plays as a right-back.”

Wenger also revealed his surprise as to why Walker’s former Spurs team-mate Eric Dier is not being used.

“He can play in the middle of the defence and as a midfielder,” the Frenchman added.

“I don’t know why he has not been used at all.”
