World Cup 2018: More penalties in group stage than entire 2014 tournament


The 2018 FIFA World Cup has been a neutral’s delight till now. The so-called smaller nations have been giving the footballing powerhouses a run for their money and records are being broken with almost every match.

From right to contested decision, VAR has been playing an immensely important role in the World Cup in Russia.

Apart from a few glitches, the technology has been well received and people are saying that given some peaceful time, it will only get better.

This edition has already surpassed the number of penalties in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

In Russia, a total of 14 penalties have been awarded while Brazil saw 13 penalties in the entire tournament. And the group stage matches are still on!
