Toni Kroos Hits Back at Critics who Were Hoping That Germany Would Crash out in the Group Stage

Germany and Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos believes that his late winner against Sweden in the World Cup last night would have disappointed the critics who were rooting for the defending champions to be eliminated from the World Cup.

Germany were facing elimination after Sweden scored early on, only for Marco Reus and Kroos to take them home, helping them register their first three points of the competition after losing their opening game to Mexico.

There was huge criticism post their loss to Mexico, but Kroos felt that the team showed just why they are the defending champions last night.

“I had the feeling that a lot of people would be happy in Germany if they eliminated us, but we are not going to make it so easy for them. We will not be sent to the streets easily,” Kroos said as quoted by ESPN.

Germany boss Joachim Low was pleased with the win, highlighting Kroos’ contributions while revealing that he told his team to continue playing their brand of football despite trailing going into the second half.

“I was very pleased for him. He was obviously involved in the mistake with the Swedes scoring the first goal. It was an unfortunate incident but what he did very well was this free kick in the dying minutes.”
