Ahmed Musa has now scored each of Nigeria’s last four World Cup goals, with this goals meaning he is the highest goalscorer at World Cup tournaments for the Super Eagles.  His last two goals were against Argentina at the 2014 World Cup.

Musa who was recalled to the starting XI, along with Kelechi Iheanacho and Kenneth Omeruo, as Gernot Rohr reverted to a 3-5-2 formation for the crunch encounter, did not disappoint, as he repaid the coach’s trust by scoring a brace. He lashed in the opener after a well controlled cross from Victor Moses. He completed his brace few minutes later, after controlling a long pass and striding into the area to finish confidently.

The win gives Nigeria three points and takes them into second place, ahead of next week’s decider against Argentina. The Super Eagles will hope to qualify for the round of 16 when they take on Argentina while Iceland take on Croatia in their next fixture, and Musa will be expected to replicate his scoring heroics.
