Pablo Zabaleta has hinted that Lionel Messi could retire from international football should Argentina crash out.
Messi struggled as Argentina struggled to contain a sparkling Croatians during their Group D clash on Thursday. They were defeated 3-0 making an early exit a high probability. Zabaleta was part of the team that reached the World Cup finals in 2014 and eventually lost to Germany. He believes that Messi could retire should they not progress to the knockout stages.
“I just feel so sorry for Lionel Messi. This was his last chance to win something with Argentina so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him retire from international football after this. He’ll be so disappointed and it’s another four years until Qatar.” he told the BBC.8
