Roy Keane regrets not ripping Iran’s coach head off during fall-out at Manchester United

Roy Keane has revealed one of his biggest regrets was not ‘ripping the head off’ Carlos Queiroz when the pair were still at Manchester United. Queiroz had two spells at United as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant, but clashed with Keane when he returned to Old Trafford for the second time. The Portuguese is now the head coach of Iran and Keane was asked about his opinion of Queiroz during Iran v Spain game on Wednesday.

Iran were taking on Spain, and Keane suddenly launched into a story about how he and Queiroz fell out. ‘Excellent coach, there were a lot of great coaches I worked under at Man United,’ Keane said. ‘Probably quite defence minded, we had a decent relationship particularly in his first spell at the club. ‘His second spell when he came back, for some reason towards the end of my time I found him really disrespectful towards me. ‘So we had a bit of a fall-out, he questioned my loyalty. I told him where to go. ‘One of my big regrets really was I probably should have ripped his head off.”

Queiroz suffered heartache with Iran in their second group game as Spain beat his side 1-0.  Iran had won their first group game and were close to earning an unlikely point against the European giants. Queiroz’s team even had a goal disallowed due to offside, but not before the Iranian players celebrated wildly on the sidelines.
