New Arsenal Signing Reveals Why He Joined Club

Bernd Leno has revealed that he did speak to Unai Emery before the Germany goalkeeper completed a move to Arsenal.
The Gunners signed Leno in a reported £20m deal from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday evening.

The German shot stopper has put pen to paper on a long-term deal with the north London outfit.

Leno will be tasked with competing with current Arsenal number one Petr Cech and the Gunners’ second-choice goalkeeper David Ospina for a starting spot in Emery’s side next season.

The 26-year-old shot stopper made 304 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen during a six-season spell in the first-team following his move from Stuttgart in the 2011 summer transfer window.

Leno shed light on his conversation with Emery ahead of his move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

“Yes,” Leno said. “Of course Arsene Wenger was always the coach of Arsenal but now it’s a new chapter for Arsenal.

“I spoke to him and he said to me that he thinks that I’m a good goalkeeper and he wanted me to come to Arsenal.

“So for me it was clear that the club and the coach want to sign me so I’m happy
