Fabregas makes interesting comments on Arsenal’s target

Arsenal are on the brink of signing Torreira for a fee of £26million.

The Uruguyan midfielder has already shown glimpses of what he can do at the World Cup against Egypt and Saudi Arabia after coming off the bench.

BBC Sport journalist David Ornstein tweeted that a deal earlier this week is imminent, although the World Cup appears to be ‘delaying things’.

And Fabregas – who previously played for Arsenal – has been impressed with what he’s seen from Torreira.

I think he’s one of the positives of the tournament, individually, so far,” Fabregas said.

“He hasn’t played a lot but you can see that he has a lot of personality, likes to play, he’s not scared.

And for a team like Uruguay that doesn’t have a lot of ‘ballers’ or possession – they need a player like him.

“They also have Torreira on the bench who I really like for Sampdoria and they break lines.”

Torreira is likely to be a replacement for Jack Wilshere, who announced earlier this week he’ll be leaving Arsenal in the summer.
